'Tis the Season to Sub


Yes, some Yoga studios and health clubs hold classes on Thanksgiving Day. As it turns out, I'm available and subbing on that important day of gratitude, and also teaching the following "Black Friday." It's all good--shopping was never my thing for the day after Thanksgiving anyways. Yoga? Now that's more like it!

In a break with my usual tradition, I'm subbing two early morning classes at Chelsea Piers on Wednesday, November 5th, and Friday, November 7th, both at 7:30 AM. Both are hour and fifteen minute Vinyasa classes.

This is very exciting-Chelsea Piers is a phenomenal facility!

September's here, summer's unofficially over, and it's time to turn our attention to our fall projects and goals. Even though my school days are over, this time of year always finds me eager to learn and explore new things and to organize and prioritize.

It's also a great time to turn over a new leaf, so to speak. Every day is a new beginning. Always remember that, just as every Yoga class is an opportunity to learn.

Bria Yoga Tanktop

So while googling "Bria Yoga," the other day (admittedly in a moment of boredom), check out what popped up:

A "Bria Yoga" tank!

That's so coooool! Two wishes:

1. That this tank weren't sold out. I'd buy it for the name alone.

2. That they offered it in my favorite color: purple.


Digging around on the Lorna Jane website, I found this company has a pretty cool story and philosophy. Too bad there are no stores in the U.S.A. or Canada, only in Australia, New Zealand, and Signapore. Maybe someday.

Yoga 4 Soul Bootcamp




That's me in the above photo, mid flip with Jojo spotting me at this past weekend's Yoga4Soul Bootcamp. He was guiding me as I came out of a handstand and landed in a backbend.

With or without the heatwave, we all would've sweated up a storm. As always, it was a blast and totally worth the temporary discomfort and doubts.

Come to think of it, the uncomfortable, but ultimately blissful experience of Bootcamp is an apt metaphor for life. Sometimes we have to push through trying times and challenges in order to find bliss, or simply a bit of peace. Often, we need a helping hand, a "spot," from those around us. There's absolutely nothing wrong with going through tough times, and with allowing others to help us out here and there.

Rocky Mountain Fly and Some News



NEWS! I am hoping to have the details of my teaching schedule worked out in the coming weeks. Wish me luck/send positive vibes my way regarding some new endeavors that are on my plate, and keep an eye on your inbox and this blog for teaching schedule updates. Also, a more extensive Bria Yoga/Bria Fit website is being developed, and I will post a launch date as soon as that info's available.


Just spent a lovely few days in Colorado, in Rocky Mountain Country. It's so important to get in touch with nature. Simply being able to work out and practice yoga with the gorgeous moutains and forest as a backdrop was phenomenal.


The scenery alone was hugely motivating, so I decided to tackle a few poses that typically give me trouble back at sea level. And wouldn't you know it--the mellow vibe and sunshine really must've done something positive and opened up new energetic pathways in me. I'm now much closer to being comfortable and solid in those poses than I had ever been up until now. The mountain air and altitude have made me feel lighter on my feet, as if taking flight in certain poses. Amazing.


Believe it or not, while away, I only spent a max of 35 minutes on yoga on any given day. Some days, I only devoted 10 minutes to my practice. Yet every moment counts.


Of course, (almost) daily practice and consistent classes over the years have laid the foundation for any and all breakthroughs. The reward is certainly not just in "getting" a pose, but in the journey. My friends and I kept coming back to class, week after week, month after month, year after year. Our teacher continues to grace us with his presence, knowledge, and enthusiasm. Things progress naturally from there. Looking back, I can see the changes in me and also in those around me. We're evolving on every level. It's beautiful, and I'm so incredibly grateful for that.
